Volunteering with the Wensum Valley Trust
The Wensum Valley Trust would not be able to deliver its aims and objectives without the sterling support of volunteer groups.
WeVols are the Wensum Valley Trust’s regular volunteer group who help our Manager in a wide range of outdoor conservation projects throughout the river valley. Previous work has included conserving grassland habitats, for example. This involves coppicing large willow trees, removing rank vegetation and removing a layer of leaf litter to expose bare soil so that the land can regenerate into acid grassland.
The Trust provides the tools and training for all conservation tasks and the WeVols help out with much needed labour. If you would like to join the WeVols, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please
contact us for further information. The Trust actively promotes the establishment of parish environment groups. These are voluntary organisations which are keen to improve and conserve the immediate environment of their village. We help parishes set up their own environment group, assess the open spaces in the village and identify the type of restoration work which is needed. We also write work plans and give essential basic training in the use of tools and equipment. We enable the parish environment group to manage the site and offer regular support and advice. We recently set up DACT - the Dereham Area Conservation Team - which has already had several sessions on Scarning Watermeadows. If you would like to form your own parish environment group, please contact us for more details.
